Children at Thorpe Primary School in Wakefield have been getting into the seasonal spirit with an Easter hard hat competition in association with Bloor Homes.
Budding artist Leah Pearson, aged 9, won first prize in the competition with a colourful design that combined the symbols of Easter and spring, featuring chicks, daffodils and a beak shaped rim. Meanwhile rising talents Rebecca Drury and Lewis Deansdale, both aged 8, were awarded the runner up prize for exceptional creativity and attention to detail. After a prize ceremony for the winners, the children celebrated their hard work with a special presentation of certificates and Cadbury’s mini eggs.
Bloor Homes joined with the primary school through their development Meadowside in East Ardsley, which offers a range of luxury family homes looking out onto open green fields.
Marjorie Gregory, sales and marketing director at Bloor Homes, said: “At Bloor, we speak to a lot of local parents who visit our Meadowside development. We were aware that the holidays are approaching and children are buzzing with excitement at the prospect of chocolate and time off school, so we thought it would be a great time to give them a creative outlet for all that energy.
“Having strong schools in the local area is essential to the success of family houses and this competition gave us a chance to really invest in the local area. It also confirmed our opinion of the high standards at Thorpe primary school and proved that we can be proud to tell our buyers that their home will be within its catchment area.
“Judging the competition proved to be harder than I imagined, not only because I was presented with thirty fantastic hats that were all so imaginative in their own way, but also because of the passion that the children put into the competition. Who knows, with this much creativity flowing, we may have glimpsed the upcoming architects or interior designers that will create the homes of the future.”
Family homes at Meadowside range from three to five bedrooms and prices start at £193,950. The development also features a selection of one and two bedroom apartments starting from £124,950. The leafy suburban development is bordered on either side by green open public spaces, the Crescent and the Village Green, protected as greenbelt land.
Edwina Cus, Headmistress of Thorpe primary school said: “The children were absolutely thrilled by the event and were justifiably proud of what they achieved.
“We would like to thank Bloor Homes who put a lot of thought into making the competition special and were so generous with the provision of arts materials that the children could really go to town and experiment with different themes, textures and colours. The seasonal theme of the event really tapped in to the children’s feelings of excitement in the run up to Easter, while the certificates will be a lasting reminder of a lovely day.”
